Nature can't stand a vacuum, so when you stopped smoking, you need to find something to replace it.

Try to do something that's an anti-smoking thing that's a stress reliever. For instance, every time you want to punch someone, get down and do 20 stomach crunches. I guarantee you, the effort will replace the need to punch. And instead of doing somenthing harmful to someone else, you will have done something helpful for yourself.

If the urge to punch happens at work, or somewhere you can't do crunches, climb a flight of stairs. (Seriously....just climb up two, then down two.) Maybe you'll even see your old smoking buddies in the stairwell, shortening their lives, while you're improving yours.

Repeat to yourself, over and over (when you want a cigarette) "Yes, a cigarette might be nice, but you know what? I AM NOT A SMOKER." Say it at least 50 times a day: "I am not a smoker."

I promise you, no one loved smoking more than I did. I can't believe I am still quit and it's been almost 16 years. I am so thankful for the things I can do today, and the prospect of living longer, of not having to worry about the wrecked skin and the yucky cigarette smell on clothes and breath, and the way that people look at you when you smoke (as if you want to be doing it, as if you can help it!)

Look, you are 30 days into the rest of your non-smoking life. That is the biggest step....all it does it get easier and easier......

Good for you! I'm trying to quit with zyban, here's hoping it works, then I'll be in the same boat. I've heard from former smokers that sucking on a halls helps, I guess because they're all hot and mediciney, good luck though. At least the hardest part is behind you. Maybe just smack them, you've earned it and they probably deserve it.

Good for you! I am 7 years smoke-free. I quit using the patch, which was a lifesaver for me! It does get easier, you just have to give it time. Keep thinking about how much better you already feel, how much easier you can breathe, and how you're saving yourself from terrible health problems down the road by quitting now. Best of luck to you!!

I quit off and on, but even though I've been "smoking" for about 3 years now, I've never been more than a pack a week kind of smoker.
Good luck!

I quit smoking after 10 years or so and I never had any problems after wards.... it's mind over matter, dear. if you still think you need to smoke you will get irritable... but if you can come to peace with yourself and realize that you are doing the right thing you will feel better about yourself... in time it WILL get easier though.. just DON'T give up... even for one drag... trust me you won't regret it.

Yes almost 16 years ago, I felt like that too, but with some more time that will wear off. If it continues see your doctor maybe they will have some ideas on how to help you. Good luck!

My best advice is to refer to yourself as a non-smoker and see yourself in that light. I know it is hard, went that same road. Also, do some breathing exercises and avoid situations where you would usually smoke a lot for a while.

I quit 2 months ago (took pain killers after surgery and got over the withdrawl)!
chew gum
go for a walk
lift weights
exercise
put on the mp3 headphones....................................
if none of this works.....just smack em!
