The most powerful home amplifier available is the Boulder 2050, made in the U.S.A.

It is a mono-bloc power amp, so you'd need two for a stereo system (or 4 if you wanted to bi-amplify your speakers), plus a pre-amplifier.

The 2050s are each rated at 1,000 watts RMS into 8ohms, with 0.0005% THD - their peak power output is a genuine 2,000 watts RMS. So, potentially, in a bi-amped system, you're looking at 8,000 watts of power...

There is one small flaw though - these brutes cost £25,000 EACH!!!

I heard the loudest speaker was at some massive junction in america where it points at the cars and plays the radio so loud that you dont need to wind the window down to hear it over the sound of your own and other engines, and if you stand directly in front of it (aswell as being able to hover in mid-air) then you have some sort of deathwish because of the massive power of the thing. Sorry but I can't remember the name or any specific figures :(

There is an amplifier more powerful then that. I remember i bought an amplifier once that had the warning on the back not to use it outside in cloudy weather because it would cause a thunderstorm.
