If he is now beginning to eat I wouldn't be concerned at all. He should begin to act normally and swim normally within a few days.

Yes it's strange most Betta fish only seem to become active when you put food in the tank. maybe he's swimming with his nose down to the floor because he might be scouring for food, if he's young and also new give him a chance to settle in, they are quite nervous fish probably trying to get used to his surroundings and other fish (if you have them in there with him.) Mine makes me laugh, as for when my guppies have there babies, he hunts round the whole tank for them, he loves eating them, (if i don't managed to get them out in time) lol. He looks like a dog, the way he prowls around the rocks and plants then he lays down and pounces, has us in stitches. Just remember they all have there own little personalities believe it or not! Mine sits by my breeding box that rests in my tank and he is so protective of the babies that he don't like anyone else near it bless him, well he's probably thinking "LUNCH"! lol.
But just keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't show any signs of illness or deceases. good luck hope he turns out to be fine and content. x

The only time you have to worry is when they're swimming upside down or start floating and they can't keep themselves down. If you want a semi more active Beta, get one of the tanks that are divided for multiple Betas, and get another one.

What would you like him to do? Betta arent every very active. Mines so lazy that it lies in the plastic plant so that it doesnt even have to swim. Everyone who sees this thinks the fish is dead. The only time he becomes active is when he sees the food container.

Hmm, not sure it may be a swim bladder disease. There are medications like salt tablets that fix this.
Betta's aren't really that active. I have 3 (one is very sick at the moment) one is very acitve the other not so much, he loves making bubble nests though.

He'll be fine, I had a beta for years and he did the same thing. They are just weird fish. sometimes they will eat their food and sometimes they wont. Just make sure u keep it near light and clean the tank often they tend to become inactive in dirty water. My fish hardly ate also. But he has a good owner so he'll be alright
