i want to use it to sew sun visors. i`m not sure i bought what i really need to do this job. ser. no. starts with AD . and it has a mat finish. i can`t get it to back stich either. will it even do that?can anyone help me out? thanks elisha

If the number on the machine Style# is a 241 what I can tell is that with the proper attachments it will even stitch throu canvas and even some leather...the very best sewing {industrial} machines made by singer were the 241 from 241-1 to 241-11...most all singer industrial sewing machines will back stich wich will allow you to tack....or reinforce a critical area....try to go to a singer site I am sure that the company or it's succesors have a site ..perhaps a google search under Singer Sewing will help

I love old machines. They have stories to tell. If it was used a lot, it may not be able to stand up to the miles of sewing or the heavy layers for your visor business. I don't think they had a reverse gear because a seamstress in a sweatshop would never have done that - they would just sew off the item onto the next one, or come back around and sew over the beginning again.

not sure if i can help but i bought one and have the same problem its singer won't back stitch but it does work great. i found some articals on some that said they where made for industrial sewing and tha t they where made with great parts and its very heavy so try it out and the older ones seam to work better i read they will do canvas and hard products denium vinal so it should work for your projects and i never found any other info on this machine. i searched for days trying to find info singer does have a nice website u can try to. teresa
