The US system has federal, state and local governments. The separation of powers is a different and unrelated policy. It speaks to the tri-cameral system in place at the federal level: judicial (court), executive (president) and legislative (congress).

Habeas Corpus: Lat. "you have the body" Prisoners often seek release by filing a petition for a writ of habeas corpus. (http://www.lectlaw.com/def/h001.htm)

The US wa a Federal republic before the 17th Amendment.
Until that time States appointed thier Senators, that meant the Senate represented the State Governments and the House represented the people.

That would happen to be (B) You are refering to the " Seperation of Powers" the Founders thought that it would be important for the power structure of the government to start at the people & work its way up.That would mean that the people have the most powers & the policitains would have the least.

However our "Leaders" over the past 100 years or so have tried to change that. They've almost succeded. Which is the scary thing.

Have a good day.

The U.S. government is a federalist government.Contrary to popular opinion,it is NOT a democracy. The various states governments are subordinate to the federal government.
