I am considering buying an AMD athlonX2 5200+, but I have a question, how come an AMD athlonX2 5000+ is more expensive than a 5200+?

i saw it on tigerdirect... a 5000+ is $312.99, but a 5200+ is $246.99
I thought the greater the number = the more powerful of the cpu
or am i wrong?

thx!!

Higher the number is faster, what can I say TigerDirect is just overcharging for the 5000+. I just went and looked and you can get a 5400+ for $239.99, better than both of the ones you listed, so I would go with it. Also, just as a note, since most users on here are in America, you should not in the future that you are in Canada.

The pricing difference could just be due to the recent AMD price reduction. The X2 5200+ is new stock and bears latest pricing. The X2 5000+ could be old stock and still bearing the old price.

The X2 5200+ has the same speed as the 5000+ but has double the L2 cache. Performance difference between the two could only be noticeable with apps that take advantage of the large L2.

Go, buy the one w/ the lowest price.

Well there is 2 reason that is, one is because there are 2 tyoes of each of those processors, 89W and 65W versions.
You may have selected the 65w 5000 and 85w 5200 the lower the watt the higher the price. This is for thermals.
Or because tigerdirect has too many of the 5200 and got them at a smaller price. When you buy processor in bulk the price is cheaper. Anyways I gave u the link to where you can research my findings
