Isn't the point of alternative fuels to get a renewable and cheaper source? Why would they put ethanol in the gas....MAYBE....yet not reflect a lower gas price than those that don't have the ethanol?

Tin: Honestly, it just got up on ONE of our town's gas stations within the last 3 months. (You have to know I live in the middle of nowhere....with stations that have never considered putting in digital gas pumps. At a population of less than 5,000, we're the largest town in a 60 mile radius)

No the point of alternative fuels is avoiding the terrible crisis that would happen when we started running out of oil. Ethanol will not be cheaper than unleaded gasoline until oil becomes so scarce that the price skyrockets. You were misinformed if you were told that alternative fuels are meant to save us money. They are meant to reduce our dependancy on foreign oil.

The 10% ethanol has other benefits. Since the alcohol displaces water, it helps keep your fuel lines from freezing in the cold. It also the gas blend can be formulated to reduce pollution.

Having up to 10% ethanol has been pretty standard practice for over a decade now.

Did you just start driving or did you just notice the sign? This sign is on almost every gas pump at every station and has been for a number of years. Most gas contains some level of ethanol. Ethanol sold under that name is actually 90% ethanol.

The price of ethanol to gas will be determined by the price of corn relative to the price of oil.

In the search for alternative fuels the emphasis is not on price it is on availability and renewability. In the case of E10, the idea is to extend the supply of oil. As a bonus, your fuel system will be cleaner and you won't need to add gas line antifreeze if you live in a cold winter area.

OMG!!! 8TM you and I are in the same brain, I was thinking precisely that same exact thing when i was in wal-mart last week. I saw Santas and crap, and not a thanksgiving thing in sight! Not even Halloween yet! I was like, WTF? Did I miss something? Is it November already? And Wal-Mart itself? Satan, in every sense of the imagination. Has anyone else noticed that they have literally fifty check out stations, and NOBODY on them? The most I have ever seen out of fifty was 20, during Christmas! Like, two days before Christmas, there were twenty registers open! Lines so long you couldn't move! Right after New years, I believe they put out Valentines day crap, and right before Valentines day they do Easter and St. Patty's. It SUCKS! STUPID WALMART!

if renewable was cheaper regular gas wouldnt be used. Ethanol is more expensive than gas, but the point is that they can always make more.

gas is the cheapest. Thats why its king.

Because first and foremost, their focus is to make money, not save us money.
