to the responder above me, INDIA is not a middle eastern country nor is it in the middle east! I do not know how to answer your question, because I don't agree with stereotypical blanket statements.

Every culture has a different smell. This is mostly due to the different foods and spices they eat. There is nothing stereotypical about this, it is proven. Ask any blind person who depends on their sense of smell and sound to compensate for their loss of sight. A blind friend of mine tells me often what country someone is from and is usually right. He tells me also which part of the United States someone is from also. So you see it isn't that people 'stink' it is just that they smell different.
You smell different from me because I eat differently than you do. Often if a person eats a lot of garlic or onion they will smell like garlic or onion, although they will probably have the healthiest of hearts.
Now as far as 'body odor' goes, well there are a lot of people from all over the world that don't use deodorant and never have. But the odor doesn't seem offensive to all people, since everyone's sense of smell is different. So rejoice in the different smells and enjoy people for who they are not what they smell like. :-)

I've noticed on the train to and from work that it's about 50/50. Some middle eastern people smell very, very bad (not dirty per se--they just have very strong body odor. They appear to be clean--I think they just don't wear deodorant. The more "Americanized" mid. eastern people are the exact opposite...they put on a TON of cologne.

Probally because many people are not used to the strong spices Indian people cook with. I myself love Indian food! Come over anytime.

its not so much that they stink, just that they smell different from what you are used to
if they came into your house ... I bet they would think it stank in there, they probably just wouldn't say anything
