Do you mean why is the handle hollow? They use the spoon directly on the machine to mix everything in to the McFlurry...watch the next time you order one...

I work at McDonald's! we use it in order to mix the topping and the ice cream. So the topping isn't just in the top, we have to mix it and that hollow part we use it to connect it to the machine.
