I love being tan but the damage it does to skin has made me stop doing it....both sun and tanning beds/booths. Have you found any good self tanners that don't turn you orange?

I'm glad to hear you have stopped tanning. I wish more people would come to that conclusion.

I think they are very, very bad! I have seen the results of it and they are not pretty. One of my older friends (45) was a "sun bunny" and when she was younger she told everyone that she wouldn't care how her skin looked when she got older. Now she says she was so wrong and if she could do it again, she would have stayed out of the sun. Her skin is very wrinkled, she has spotting and it looks very dry. When she runs into old friends from her younger days, they often joke about how "they told her so".

I have another friend who is 54 and she has been wearing sunblock for as long as it has been around and she always wore a hat and avoided the sun when possible. She still has porcelain skin and no wrinkles.

Also, the risks for melanoma (one of the most dangerous cancers) is actually quite high. You have to ask yourself, is your health really worth all the vanity involved in being tan? And do you want to look 20 years older then your age when you are 40?

There are many great self tanners. Bain de Soliel makes some and Neutregena has some good ones as well. And there are some salons that do spray tanning, which is very even and is supposed to look quite natural. It's probably a negotiable price compared to tanning beds.

I don't tan. I'd rather still look 30 when I'm 50 than the other way around. I've had so many family members who worshipped the sun...and their skin looks like leather now...ulgh.

I use Jergens lotion that has a touch of self tanner in it, it works well and looks totally natural. You won't get a dark, dark tan from it, but it gives you a nice sunkissed look.

I did try tanning in the salons but I like the sun much better and I usually get a really good tan.
I don't really like the salons because they are not good for the skin, just like you said.
There is this airbrush tan but I assume it's pretty expensive. Or there are some kind of aerosol sprays for that too in the beauty stores.

I love a nice tan, I work in the sun all summer long, but I only let my arms get tan I don't want skin damage. But I do love seeing a girl with a nice tan, and tan line do it for me. Love them.

I love the tanning bed. I used some of that bronzer last year and went to the beach and then it started wearing off and part of my skin looked lighter like blotchy. I don't recommend self tanner for that reason.

tanning can make some people look more attractive if they get a slight natural tan, but over tanning, I think, is completely messed up..like when people who were totally white before tan till they're dark brown...gross. Plus tanning too much can cause skin cancer, early wrinkles, and make you look older faster. I don't know much about self tanners, sorry.

The harder I try not to tan, the more often I get burned. Go figure. And no, I haven't found any self tanners that don't turn me orange.

Why don't you try the spray on tan from the tanning salon. They say the are pretty good. I would try it now before you are going to wear shorts all of the time so if you hate it it won't be so bad. Ask them if the have a lite version.

I do the fake tan thing. I'm so fair complected and light eyed and light haired, and I'm a walking skin cancer case waiting to happen if I lay out in the sun or use a tanning bed. I'm not quite ready to die just yet.I'll stick with my fake tan.

ive never been in a tannin bed but i like to tan in the sun in the summer. just be sure if u tan in the sun to put some sun block on. never tan after puttin baby oil on cuz u will get burnt and ur skin will feel like its burnin and get itchy, which is never a good sign.
