From the carbon dioxide and global warming angle, nuclear is the best. Proven and capable of meeting the energy needs of the whole planet for a few hundred years and by that time, fusion will most probably come along. That will take care for many many millenia.

Solar and windpower are the cleanest (nuclear does emit a little radioactivity into the atmosphere and spent fuel reprocessing is a little troublesome area), but they can't cater to the needs of the whole planet.

well, there's lots of different kinds, from nuclear to wind and solar, but there is NOTHING WRONG with fossil fuels. CO2 is not bad for the environment, after all, carbon is the most abundant element on this planet. you and me and every other living thing are all made out of mostly carbon. (not to mention fossil fuels are cheap)
