Mrs. Mayer, 6th grade, Michael McCoy Elementary School. She taught me the love of reading. Everyday after recess she would turn all of the lights off in the classroom except the one at the front of the room. She'd sit on a stool under that light and read to us, a chapter or 2 a day. That year she read The Outsiders, Stewart Little, Charlotte's Web and others to us. I was fascinated and began to love books. It's been many, many years and I still read those books every once in a while, I just got done reading The Outsiders for the 10th time. Over the years I've worn out many library cards. I wish I could thank Mrs. Mayer for that!

My Chemistry teacher in the Fifth and Sixth Forms (1952-54). He was an ex Bomber Command flyer who had won the DFC and Bar in WW2. He had also been very badly wounded in the war and taught with a passion that seemed to help him cope with pain and some very, very bad memories.
He was a hero to us, but treated us as equals - one of the veyr few not to patronise us.
Peter (Butch) Griffiths did not live more than 25 years after the War but in that time he turned out more good chemistry students than ever before in the school's history.

My English teacher. He told me that everything is possible with hard work and determination when other teachers suggested that I should just drop out of high school. He was right and I've been an English teacher for 30 years and love it.

An R.E (Religious Education) teacher called Miss Taylor....she taught us using The Simpsons. Would sit us down tell us there was some religious story behind a episode and make us watch it and guess what it was at the end of the lesson! Still it didn't help as I got an E for it in my GCSE's . . . . (we got made to take it)! x x

Jesus. Only been a born again christian for 2 years but he has already changed me so much for the better, I'm more forgiving, less judgemental etc and find it easier to love myself regardless of mistakes I make because Jesus died for me and even if I was the only person on earth he still would have and that counts for us all. He loves us all and we all can learn so much from him.x
