If you want to buy a high quality car with a lowest price for the most reliable,I suggest you try auto auctions.

There are there kinds of car auctions.
Dealer only auctions --- only licensed dealers are allowed to buy or sell cars,You can not get in or bid without being a licensed car dealer or an employee.

Public auctions --- the public is allowed in.In fact, you usually cant by anything from public 'open' auctions because usually the pricing is too high.

Government and Police auctions --- Every day, the government confiscates, seizes and repossesses thousands of Vehicles. These vehicles are usually typically listed at 90% OFF their original value and auctions usually start at $100.

Two months ago,I bouht a near new SUV from online police auction. It only cost me $730 and i have not had one problem with it yet .
I followed the guide on
http://www.usedcarsinfo.info/index.php?t=usedcar .That site lists top 5 Police auction sites and help you choose the best one.
Good luck!

You speak to your dad; tell him thanks for the car, after careful consideration, given your own income and needs, you believe a smaller more economical car with lower operating costs better suits you. Then ask him if it would make sense to sell the Vauxhall and acquire something more appropriate.

I bet that he will be impressed with your thoughtfulness in looking at many different parts of the issue.

Good luck.

The Suzuki Sidekick is light, economical and dead nut reliable. Don't know if it is available in Scotland but here in the states it and its twin the Geo Tracker are easily found with 150,000 miles on them and still running fine. Mine has 185,000 on it, gets 28 mpg and still runs like new. Keep doing your homework, you're on the right track already.

Dude, from experiance, I'll tell you to go Japanese. Japanese cars are usually low cost, very feul efficient, and not to heavy on need of repair.
