Since 18 is the age when someone is considered a LEGAL adult, it isn't illegal. An 18 year old is considered able to make their own decisions, responsible for their own actions. However, the difference here is what is legal and what is socially acceptable. The major question here is - what is in your heart? Does this seem right for YOU?
I had a girlfriend that was 18 when I was 38. After we broke up, I met a wonderful woman and we fell in love and are now married. She's 20 and I'm now 44. I didn't plan it that way (even hesitated for 6 months before asking her out), but we are very, very happy. My wedding ring that she gave me is inscribed on the inside - "With you, I am happy"

What do the parents of the 18 year old say? I like the answers that refer to morals as distinct from laws. Morals come from spiritual and cosmic sources, whereas laws are politically defined by the due process of government.
You say "IF it's wrong. . . " like maybe you think it is not?? Wrong it is not. Inadvised, now that is the case. Never advise a 42 year old to go out with an 18 year old. Won't hardly work.
Why, the older will die and the other will be 24 years younger!
And the younger will be nurse maid to the older if the older should live to be 60/36, 70/46, and 80/56
Ah well. Not my problem. Been married 39 years and still going strong with my husband 4 years older.

Something which is wrong doesn't have to be illegal... For example, saying foul languages, sleeping during classes, slacking during work, etc. all these are wrong but they are far from illegal. If everything which is wrong is now considered as illegal then the world will be running out of prisons.
Btw, i don't understand why a 42yr old dating a 18yr old is considered "wrong". in many other countries 18-year-olds are considered as adults. If the 42yr old is dating a 8yr old then its wrong.
Sry for poor english. Hope you understand

Since the 18 year old is of legal age to make that decision herself, it can't be said to be illegal. As to wrong -- that is always a personal judgment. While I may not feel myself that it is right, I don't have the right to make that decision for anyone else, unless there is actual HARM being done in the relationship.

It's legal but other than sex, a 42 year old doesn't have much else in common with an 18 year old.

Legal and moral should not be confused. Laws should enforce behaviours that allows society to function smoothly and not the moral beliefs of any given segment of that society.
Morals change from person to person and group to group. What one may consider to be immoral another may find irrelevant or desirable.

Morally wrong isn't always illegal. And it might be in your state. Better check.
