i have had the same problems looking for costumes on a budget but i have found that charity shops have all sorts of treasures for that sorta thing after all its only gonna be worn once right? alotta charity shops have a fancy dress section but if not you can pick up a summer dress, or mini skirt cheaply and go to your local haberdashery and pick up some coloured netting or chiffon which can be about a pound or so per meter and some ribbon and sequins to stick on and Presto one unique personalised tinkerbell costume!

You have got a basic idea from looking on e bay. Just get a pink swimming costume (or other pastel) then try and get a metre of chiffon type fabric and a strip of ribbon long enough to tie around the waist. Cut about 6 long triangle pieces from the fabric and use SewSimple (bostik) glue bought from supermarkets - its marvellous stuff! to stick the smaller end of triangle to the ribbon. This forms the skirt. then do the same around the neck with smaller triangles. You can add any glittery stuff - sequins etc, with the glue to the costume if you like. This won't set you back much at all. To finish get some tights to match, wings and a wand too, and hey presto! Good luck!
