Usually your doctor or midwife will tell you how much you have dialated at 36 weeks. The next time you see your midwife, she will tell you. They never check before 36 weeks, because nobody wants a premature baby. After 36 weeks, your baby is considered normal and healthy. The risk of them being in an incubator after birth is slim unless your baby is underweight or has some birth defects.

Hi there. My midwife told me she will not check you unless you ask. She said some people hate getting checked so she won't "make" you get checked. I asked her if she would check me yesterday and she did, I am at 1cm, not effacing yet. She said I can get checked every week if I want or I can jsut wait. I want to know if I am making progress so I will probably have her check me every week. And it was not that uncomfortable to me, but she did say my cervix was very easy to find and check.

You can only tell if you have an internal exam. Ask your midwife about it. She will have to do an internal check.

I had four kids and I was never checked in advance. They did not check me until I was in labor.
