I watched a show on Animal Planet one time where they "pitted" two species like this against each other, except they used mechanical reproductions to simulate the modes of attack each animal would use. They pitted the grizzly bear against a tiger, to see which one would cause the most damage. They used a dead cow to be the "victim". The tiger's claw swat tore the flesh of the cow deeply, but the grizzly's swat broke the cow's back. So it was confirmed that the grizzly would probably win in a fight with a tiger (or other large cat like a lion).

My first impression was the bear so I did a little research and confirmed my opinion. A male lion can weigh up to 500 pounds. A male grizzly can weigh 1500 pounds but still move around 35 mph. More importantly, the bear would have a hugh behavioral advantage. Lionesses hunt, male lions do not with maybe a few exceptions. Male lions generally fight only to establish dominance over a pride or take out another pride. Grizzly bears on the other hand may fight over a carcass, including taking on packs of wolves. So hypothetically, the two could be induced to fight over food but the male grizzly would be more motivated and invested in the outcome. The lion can always eat someone else's kill later. It's good to be the king.

Although both animals are deadly when it comes to fighting, chances are somewhat slightly higher that you'll win against male grizzly bear than a lion.
A grizzly bear may leave you alone if you make yourself bigger or make noise to scare it away.
A lion is a different story, making yourself bigger or noiser won't scare a lion but actually attact lions and the fact that when fighting against a lion, it will kill you for a meal or for target practice.
Fight a grizzly bear is a better option than a lion

there's a video on Youtube, that shows a Cougar (mountain lion) struggling with a Black undergo (not a Grizzly), in the wild. The combat led to a draw, whilst the undergo kind of gave up. He ought to in no way get an excellent lick in on the greater agile cat. Take that up a notch -- a lion is a little greater efficient than a cougar, yet a griz. is greater efficient than a black undergo, too. i could say the result could be an identical -- a draw, with the grizzly getting drained and strolling away. .
