I'm pretty sure I can't do a straight copy from Windows. Would I have to buy Norton Ghost?

You need a program like Ghost to do this; you will be able to transfer an image of your current hard drive to the new one by connecting the new one in your PC, then booting from a Ghost disk. Be careful with this, if you don't choose the right options in the cloning process, you will overwrite the disk with the data on it with the blank hard drive, thereby erasing the good one!

Ghost, Drive Image, or another cloning software.

The other alternative is to just add the new drive as a second hard drive. Use it for data storage, etc., and continue to run Windows from your current hard drive.

A third alternative is to install Windows on the new hard drive, put in the old drive as a second drive, and use the "File Transfer Wizard" in XP to move things from the original to the new drive. While not perfect, it does decent job.

Yes, I have used ACRONIS many times and it is excellent and fast, a couple click and you're done.

And it's FREE!
