I don't know where you live or who there has judged your society, or any other as morally superior. However, if you start giving up your freedom I doubt you'll hold the rather ridiculous belief that you are morally superior for very long. I live in the US and am mature enough to know that neither my nation nor anyone elses is really 'morally superior'. We have seen our freedom diminished to a certain degree over the past 6 years almost without a whimper on our part. It was a mistake and will take real work to get back what we gave up.

Depends on what freedom, what is defined as "little" and what level of protection.

Morally superior society? That's a bit of an arrogant assertion don't you think? Superior to who? Some would argue that we're not morally superior.

And of course, some things you may find ok are immoral-- e.g. detaining citizens/residents w/out charging/trying them. Or how about arresting people and shipping them to countries to be tortured only to find out they're innocent.

I think they tried that in the movie "Equilibrium" (2002). The intellects decided to eliminate the one thing that causes war and destruction in our world - Human Emotion. So they passed a law to drug everyone so that they can't feel emotion. Therefore, everyone agreed to give up "some" of their freedom to protect society. You should watch that movie. The system failed like it would in real life. Underground movements created uprising which caused the government to suppress the people more and more until there was no more freedom to take away...

Our freedom is WHY we have a morally superior society.

Nope you give up a little freedom just like the germans did and then a little more and then more and then all of it. We wont see this as anything big its already happening but just like hitler their doing slowly with the patriot act among other things. Heh were royally screwed. I wonder how long before they start sending people to concentration camps? Oh bugger they already are (gitmo) see even Im rather slow in realizing the threat.

Unless you're being sarcastic I suggest you move to England or another commonwealth country, where everything is for "the good of the State!" Your attitude of losing freedoms for a "greater good" will fit in nicely.
Our founding fathers knew exactly how easliy a government can curtial individual rights & freedoms. Which is exactly why we have a Constitution to protect them!

No. This is the dumbest and oldest argument.

Anyone who would give up some freedom for safety deserves neither freedom or safety.
