Alcohol is a depressant so adding it to Effexor is pretty much nixing the Effexor.
Yeah, you might think that the alcohol is helping but in reality it is really hurting you and this is why you remain "down" though you are taking the Effexor.
75mg of anything like Effexor is a fairly large amount and adding alcohol is not good.
Part of the side effects of medicines like Effexor is that they may do just the opposite of what they are given for and if you are still feeling down after taking it,instead of "boosting" it with alcohol you need to be talking to the Dr that prescribed it and have some adjustments made.

lite beer may have fewer calories, but alcohol is alcohol. If you are still feeling low, you need a higher dose of effexor and you must stop drinking. Alcohol negates the effectiveness of effexor. Taking the med and drinking is like throwing money down the drain, and effexor is not inexpensive. You probably continue to feel bad because you are drinking. Get rid of the nightly beer, and talk to your doctor about increasing the Effexor. You may also want to consider that alcoholism is either where you are or where you are heading with this behavior.

You drink three beers every night but don't think you are drinking heavily? This may not be heavy but it is routine and is damaging your body, interupting you sleep cycle and masking the effects of your meds. If you have problems with still being sad, down, difficulty sleeping etc then your med is not working right and you need to let your doctor know so he can adjust the dosage or change your med. Call him and let him/her know about ALL of this including the nightly drinking. You need to stop drinking every day as you are causing some serious damage to your body by doing this.

Okay, whoa. First of all, light beer or not, it is still drinking heavily if you drink every night or need alcohol to sleep. The first thing you need to do is talk to your psychiatrist about this. The second theing you need to do, is find a local AA to go to. Or maybe the other way around actually, if you get help for your drinking before you talk to your psych., he may not put you into rehab. And he will if he has to. Good Luck.

I drank nightly on prozac and cymbalta-it really didn't work well because some how it made me feel worse like I was taking this stuff for nothing. I took more but couldn't get out of my funk. Sadly, I now just drink and am off the meds and actually I am doing better.
I think the combonation made me fuzzy-I had hard time making decisions, concentrating, or being happy. I was on this med regim for two straight years. W/o out them I am clearer headed but a little bitchy at times.
I also heard it causes liver damage and your body works harder to filter both the meds and alcohol. I still get sad sometimes( Ive had a few major depressions(2) in my life) its very hard to shake but keeping busy with "wholesome" hobbies helps allot. Good luck, T

STOP! If you take antidepressants with alcohol, you could die! Alcohol is a depressant; it slows down nerve signals in the brain. You need those nerve signals to keep your heart beating. Anything that amplifies the effects of alcohol could cause your nerve signals to misfire, causing your heart to stop. No more beer. No more cocktails. No more wine. Just STOP!

any antidepressants can cause you to feel like you want to commit suicide..its one of the side effects. so drinking or anything else like that could multiply these symptoms. dont drink! talk to the doctor that prescribed effexor to you and maybe he'll have to prescribe you something different to help you from feeling down.
