I have a Dell laptop, Inspiron 5100 and when I insert a movie I get an error stating DVD decoder not installed?? This is a DVD drive. Could this a driver issue? If so, I have been unable to find a link on the Dell website to update my dll's. Or, could this be the DVD drive?

Try this. . . . go into your device manager and disable the DVD ROM drive. . then reboot. . . . . Then go back in and enable it, then reboot again. . That should work.

Sounds like you are missing the software that Dell ships with the 5100 for playing DVDs (usually PowerDVD). Check the web site for the software and download it. (It will be more that just a dll.)

Or, you do not have the correct codec (file coder and decoder) for the type of movie on the DVD. Go to http://divx.com and down the free divx decoder. (You normally do not need the player or the web addon - if you want to save space).

For a great Media Player try VLC, it will play almost anything you can throw at it and wont use a lot of your systems resources.

Right click My Computer>Explore>right click the drive>select Properties>Select the recording tab>check Enable CD recording on this drive>OK.
