If we accept the statistics of the health authorities, more than half the population of USA is overweight and obese. And the contributing factors are too much sugar and corn syrup etc., which are simple carbohydrates and provide so much energy that the body cannot burn it off (esp. in the absence of exercise) and thus people store the excess energy as fat. Other developed countries and even developing countries like India (where I live) are not far behind and health problems related to this excess supply of energy are on the increase.

1. The energy is captured very efficiently in the high energy last bond of ATP, during cellular respiration. (The greater the efficiency of capture and later use, the less waste heat has to be dissipated!)

2. Humans have a variety of methods for dissipating excess heat. Primarily, we have a large skin surface area, and an active circulatory system bringing warm fluids close to the skin surface area. The same is true in the lungs. Humans also have some evaporative cooling from sweat glands, should the need arise.
