Kids? Baby sitter somewhere else
Own Home?/Got an apartement/condo with some privacy? Night of romantic dinner and drinks
Got a dress that you want to buy that you wouldnt be caught dead with in public but looks sexy to your husband? AND would you feel EMPOWERED wearing it?
Get, wear it, let the night go from there.
No special gifts, no romantic outings, just home and you and him. The reason why you are together. He'll talk about that for years to come instead of a month from now forgetting/breaking what you thought was a nice trinket/gift.
Might not be your idea, but I guarantee, I would wake up with a smile for a few days and NEVER forget it.
The only thing to make it great for you too is that if you want to make a dinner and all that. If he gets the day off, just prepare everything and act just like you are just making him a special dinner without any signs of mood settings, when its time for the mood settings, BEG him to run to a store that'll take 30-45 to get what you want so you can do final preps and then enjoy.

Buy him a gift certificate to a spa, for a nice relaxing massage. Or does he like to golf/show interest in learning? The season is just about to start, maybe you can get him a lesson/course pass.

Ten years of his life back. I'm sure he'd love that!
...And if you manage to find the shop that sell it... let me know.. thanks
...But in the meantime why not book him up for something extreme like a helicopter ride or a trip in a race car. I'd just love it so I'm sure he will.

I have a friend who turned thirty a few years ago. His wife gave him a jar of 30 lemon drops for his birthday, along with a note that basically indicated that, at any time of his choosing, he could bring her a lemon drop, and she'd give him a bl0w j0b.
He said it was the best birthday present he had ever received in his life.

Prepared him a candelight dinner with all of his favorite foods. Also present him a small gift after dinner. But the dinner, he will surely love. Expecially if you make it romantic.
