with good warranty (3 years ) I do photography as a serious hobby so it will need to be geared towards that. thanks for the advice in advance .. ( dont name hp everyone in my family has one and there computers have died after only 2 to 3 years !! including mine )

I have a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092 with 1GB of memory, a 3 year warranty, Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002 SP2, Intel Centrino Mobile Technology, wireless internet, a keypad on the keyboard, a 17" monitor, a CD/DVD drive, and memory card slots, along with an American Express Card slot. I am very pleased with the quality of Toshiba notebooks. You can choose from models like the Tecra, Satellite, Qosimo, and Portege.

If you don't mind paying a little more, take a look at a Macbook Pro.
Yeah, you will be able to run Vista or XP on it along with OS X. I set my parents up with 2 Macbooks for their business and all I hear is bragging from them both.
