WEP needs to be selected, but you go to know how to get there first.

Go to Start, run, type cmd and hit enter.
Dos Prompt appears.
Type ipconfig.
Write down the GATEWAY ip address.
Open Internet Explorer.
Type in the ADDRESS BAR http:\\{gateway ip address}
It should ask for a username/password
Depends on the model but normally default is : username, leave it blank, password is either "admin" or "password". No quotation marks.

Go to wireless security and change it to wep. Set a password and your secure.

Warning! If you do this, you will need to reconnect to your wirelless router. Reconnect your wireless conection.

Double click the icon at task bar far right that looks like a computer with 3 wavy lines, it will open wireless device connection properties. Click view avail wireless networks. Hit disconnect then connect. Type in the password you used for the router, and your secure!

You can do this at either machine, but preferably at the pc. That way when you edit the wireless router info, you can still get on the router. The laptop will lose connection from the wireless after you setup security.

You need to set up a WEP (or WPA depending on brand) password on your router. Also called an "encryption key". Check the documentation that came with your router (or the manufacturer's web site). The process is usually very simple. It requires that you set up the password on the router, and then enter the same password once on each PC that accesses the network.

WEP has shown to be very unsecure.

As seen here:

I would recommend using WPA-PSK with TKIP
I know it's a lot to say, but it is much more secure.

You would set a SHARED key that changes at a regular interval. There is not too much overhead. The only disadvantage is that older network equipment (i.e. 802.11b standard equipment) may not support this type of encryption.

in case you used the community setup wizard, entered your WEP code, and did not decide on report sharing, you would possibly want to be secure. the basically way all people can get entry for your community is to have your WEP code.
