I have a tie between three.
1. Mambo Italino
2. Trick
3. Butch Camp
M.I. because it focuses on typical old country family reactions. Trick because things like that really do happen. And butch camp for the obvious satire.
My friend and I are always saying, we are sick of Gay movies that focuses on AIDS and gaybashing and the like always getting the focus of the attention. Its the comedies and the romantic comedies that will be more universal.

I love "High Art" with Ally Sheedy and Radha Mitchell and I also really like "Boys don't cry" even though it made me very sad and also this movie but I can't remember the name of it with Piper Perabo where she is in love with her roommate. And also, a movie called "Imagine me and you"! There are others, i just cant think of them. I think a gay film is successful based on its realism and depth into the relationship and characters!

Gay films aren't exactly allowed where I live - goes against public policy or whatever crap, so I haven't seen any - but you rock out loud for doing gay films. ;)
Sorry, this wasn't an answer. Just a show of support. =)

I really liked To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar. I liked it because the main characters were drag queens, but their sexuality wasn't a big deal. They just happened to be drag queens. And I thought Patrick Swayze and John Lequizamo were gorgeous in it. (Wesley Snipes was, however, not an attractive woman!)

I kinda like the L Word - the ladies are so real. It's like they live in their own little agy world and every one is fine with that and they are so happy. Else they're breaking up with someone, then that's evrybody's business.
I could live in a world like that.
Stay safe.
