Are you inside the car?
Cause if you're outside, and you lock the door, you won't be able to shut off the ignition! (unless the window is lowered.)
I suggest you push the button down manually. Or lose a week in repairs... whatever.

Well, with the engine off, will the door lock with the switch?
If not then:
It very possibly is the switch, or a broken wire going from or to the switch by the door jamb.

If it's a new car that more than likely it's normal. Call the dealer and ask.
