He is as you were there first.
He was obviously an ignorant cuss who believes he has a god given right to park outside his house.
If there was an accident and you could prove you were there first then he would be liable.
On the other hand as no accident happened then alls well ends well.

FOR PREVIOUS ANSWERER - no one has the right to park on the road ???? - some policeman you are - only if there are no stopping on the highway signs - the blue ones with red ring and cross over.
I would say you are in the right and the guy was just being an a**hole, if you were there first and he parked afterwards blocking the road then he is a fool, if its somewhere u dont hav to park again just get in the car and drive off - if you park there often and its the only place u can park then just explain to the man the predicament and tell him every time u park there u will hav to take a picture on ur phone where u are and how the road is open and then at least its proof.
At the end of the day if the guy cant drive or reverse into his own drive then he shouldnt be driving.

Oh ive experienced this before. You are totally in the right here - no restrictions on the road and no driveway mean you can park there. People get very territorial about parking spaces - its probably a narrow road that has alot of parking problems and he gets annoyed if he cant park where he wants to. He should have just parked a bit further down, after all he lives there so he knows the road!

You were within your rights but one needs to be cautious around such aggressive people - innocent people have been killed by other drivers who thought they had a better right to parking spaces!
I parked in a deadend street outside a vacant piece of waste land with no entrance from that street. An elderly woman from across the road leaned out her bedroom window and screeched at me demanding I moved because her husband would have difficulty backing out of his driveway. My unspoken response was that if he could not manage to back in the very generous space still available, then he should not be still driving.
To keep the peace I moved my car further along. When I returned to my car I found a note left by the aforementioned couple's neighbour, with the identical complaint.
Clearly an area inhabited by grumpy old drivers!

I would have to think that the last guy that parked was at fault. He could have parked in his drive way or garage, he was just being obnoxious about it. I'm surprised that someone didn't call the police and have them both towed.
Some subdivisions have specific rules regarding parking on the street. In our subdivision, you have to park on the odd numbered houses side, but it is only enforced when there is a chance that a snow scraper will need to get down the road to clear it.
Chances are the guy was a jerk.

You are.
If two cars opposite each other block the street, then the cars should park outside the house, not opposite.

The property owner may not appreciate it, but it is legal, provided there weren't any other street signs posted. I deal with this issue all the time.

He is wrong, although it is very annoying when people park right outside your home.
