Vegan fibers:
acrylic
aloo
bamboo
banana
corn
cotton
hemp
linen
soy
tencel
viscose

Not vegan:
alpaca
angora
cashmere
llama
merino
mohair
qiviut
silk
wool

You can buy the most common vegan yarns (acrylic & cotton) anywhere, even Wal-Mart. The newer alternative fibers can be harder to find:

Try looking for bamboo, linen, silk or cotton yarns/blends. A lot of good yarn shops are carrying them. Or you could go with old acrylic standards that you can find inexpensive.
