The best and easiest way to get students to do several concepts at the same time and have fun is to either play a card game where they have to keep score and calculate scores like rummy or crazy eights, or Yahtzee. There are some other games that you can play but they require time and use of extra materials. Monopoly, Muggins, etc...

Ask students how to determine the best cards to play why those? How do they determine which cards to keep and which to discard? Ask them about sequencing and scoring. Ask them to explain the formulation of scoring. Explain how the next score is a combination of the current score which is known with the next hand played. Many variables, unknows, formulas, relationships etc etc etc... And you can have a contest for the best player... Also, playing games requires them to observe rules and order in play and why they are important to make things work.

Just an idea

alot of the best ideas are the simpliest with great explanations who would have thought there was that much math in playing cards

Set up a general store in your classroom, and let the kids use math to figure out what they can buy and how much change they get. Have some students run the store and others as the shoppers then switch. What kids don't like to shop.

I am an elementary school teacher, and I have found that graphing works great, even with kindergarteners. What you do is pick a topic, such as "Favorite Holiday." Pass out one index card to each student and ask them to draw a picture of their favorite holiday. Then one by one have the students come up to a large poster board that already has the axis set up on it, and have them tape up their card under the correct label. Ask them questions about it afterward. They love personalizing their work!

You can always do a lesson on money. But here is a source you might want to try. There are other websites just like it and better: 1) teacher.net 2)edhelper.com

These are two of my favorites. They have lesson plans you can download as well as assignment and homework sheets with assessments and answers.

Good luck,

If you're a teacher, shouldn't you be doing your own lesson plans?

You're as bad as your students that come on here asking the answers to their homework questions.
