To see exactly how far Macquarie Uni is from the snowy mountains, search for directions between Herring Road in North Ryde (that's where the uni is) and Jindabyne (the 'base camp' per say for the snowy mountains). I reckon it's more like just over 4 hours rather than 5 to 5 and a half but it depends on what time of day you drive (try to steer clear of peak hour!) http://www.whereis.com/whereis/directions.do

I'm interested to find out why you think the mountains are near the uni. Will you be attending there? If you are, they have an adventure sports club you can join that will travel down to the snow. It's a lot of fun if you're up for it! http://au.geocities.com/macquarieuniadventuresports/

The Snowy Mountains are not in Sydney. They are not even near Sydney. You may as well ask how to find the Grand Canyon in Los Angeles near UCLA.

Install Google Earth and Google maps on your computer. Then find Australia. Now find Sydney, it may even have Macquarie University marked. Now find Jindabyne. Use the distance measuring facility.

Or just get an atlas if you can find one that has places outside the USA in it.

If all you want to do is see snow, the Blue Mountains, about 60 minutes to the west of Macquarie Uni, get snowfalls 2 or 3 times each winter. Not enough for snowsports, and the snow melts quickly so you will have to be ready to go whenever it falls.

Otherwise, I agree with the others - 5.5 hours drive, or you can fly to Cooma and get a shuttle.

You will be looking at about 5 hours drive as they are not situated in Sydney. You can get a bus from Sydney but it takes longer.Good luck. You would be better off flying from Sydney to Canberra...They are on the border of Victoria and New south wales
