The 80's are not really classic rock in general, more new wave. The term "classic rock" was invented for the 70's sound. I believe that classic rock, like a Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame nominee, has to be 25 years old or more.

Classic rock includes such bands as Doors, Cream, Velvet Underground, Deep Purple, Ozzie, Buffalo Springfield, The Who, Guess Who, Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Moddy BLues, Stones, Jeff Beck, Fugs, Beatles, Country Joe, Jefferson Airplane, Uriah Heap,The Band,10 Yrs After, and of course my favorite JETHRO TULL! I could go on all day! Most include bands from late 60s and 70s altho "classic' actually means older than 25 years, so go figure!

I would say up to the 70s... and any music that sounds like that...

The term classic rock was invented to make it different from punk & new wave, which started in 1975, 76, 77 or so

Mid 60s to early 90s should be considered classic rock
From early Beatles to Who to Led Zeppelin to Deep Purple, Queen ect. all the way to Nirvana and Pearl Jam, with the exceptions of some real crappy 80s hair metal bands...
or from mid 60s to early 80s could be considered more legit "CLASSIC ROCK"
