A $6 dollar bottle of wine will cost you $24 or more at a restaurant. Why? Why don't they just mark it up 100% and let people enjoy a good dinner with a glass of wine. Why are they so greedy?

Rent, labor, insurance, advertising, waste, theft, credit card fees, utilities, menu development, repairs .... Plus to top it all off restaurants generally pay more for beer, wine & liquor than the bargains at retail stores. I mark up my wine bottles about 3 times the cost for a bottle I pay $8.00 for and 2 times the cost for $18.00 and above. Despite this I prefer that people drink liquor or even soda as a profit item.

Beverages are where restaurants make their money. Without the mark-ups on beer, wine, liquor and even soft drinks most restaurants wouldn't be able to survive financially.

1. They do not want you to get drunk.
2. Or they make more money overall because they still just sell your table one bottle. And such is the price of freedom and a free market.

maybe...but you see in Ontario Canada, we are allowed to bring our own wine to the restaurant.....only have to a $8 fee for them to pop the cork......works out well cause if you don't finish the bottle you can then take it home with you.....cool huh?
