The smallest deer known alive in the world is the Pudu. It stands only 13 to 15 inches tall or 33 to 38 cm at the shoulder and only weighs around 18 pounds or 8.2 kg.

The Pudu can be found in Chile and Argentina. If you accidentally come upon a Pudu and frighten him, he will in fact bark similar to a dog even though they are not relate.

The smallest of all true deer species are the Southern pudu. They will stand on its hindlegs to reach the leaves of trees or test the wind. Solitary execpt during the mating season, this territorial animals follows well-marked trails to its feeding and resting spots. Listed as vulnerable, this species suffers predation from domestic dogs, and competition for food from introduced species such as fallow deer.
Found in South Chile, Southwestern Argentina
up to 32 1/2 inches (83 cm)
up to 17 inches (43 cm)
up to 28 1/2 lb (13 kg)

It is the Pudu...just saw one at the San Diego Wild Animal Park last weekend and it said it was the world's smallest deer.

i gotta tell ya; all i did was type 'smallest deer in the world' into a search engine and i got plenty of answers. looks like the phillippine mouse deer. or the leaf deer. there doesn't seem to be an agreement about it. try google. it really does work.

I believe that would be the dik dik, world smallest deer :) actually a member of the antelope family.

Her name is pudu. She's only 8.6 kg. They can be found in chili & Argentina.
