My wife is leaving Saturday morning to visit he sick mother for a week. I'll wait a half hour, then follow her. When I get there, I'll call her and say I say a dent in her fender. When she comes out to look, I'll be standing there.
Or should I just stay home with pizza and beer?

the surprise! that shows that you care for her and her mother...if you stay home for pizza and beer, that sounds mean to me at a time when your wife is feeling stressed due to her mom's situation. you could always have pizza and beer in happy times!
