I know of perfectly able bodied people who will not go and get a job but yet will sponge off the government to make it.

The government makes it easy, if it were harder to get on welfare than to work you would see a lot more people working and the unemployment rate would be very slim.
Also the government will actually have you sign a contract that says they will give you "x" amount of dollars, say 2000, as long as you do not go to school or have a job. If you do either of these you will lose ALL of your assistence.
In short: Laziness

Sometimes it is the fault of the government in the way the program is run. You should be able to make more $$ when you work, not when you don't. But mostly it is a mindset, a learned way of life. Education would only cure this. I don't really mean college.

I asked my husband yesterday if he had ever met anyone on welfare that actually needed to be on welfare. His company has a service to low income families so he is around welfare recipients a lot...After thinking for a few minutes he said no. It is laziness and irresponsibility.

Me too. It's robbery really. I work at 9 months prego and I have my money taken away to support them, yet if I need something for one of my own kids I wouldn't get any of what I put in back.

indeed, they are lazy. i know a couple of ppl who are married with children but use their maiden names so the gov't thinks they're single parents. they work temp jobs with sub-minimum wage just so they'll keep the assistance coming. that is NOT fair.

They are stuck in their comfort zone and have no motivation to get up and get a job, when they can just sit at home, get fat, get pregnant, and get high all day and collect a check monthly!
