I currently keep 46 tanks at home and have everything from guppies to bettas to chocolate gourami and freshwater stingrays as well as an assortment of African cichlids and some killifsh and dwarf cichlids. I also keep a few endangered livebearers as part of a species maintenance program.

I keep a 320 gallon, a 150gallon, 90gallon, 2 75 gallons, a 55 and a 56 tall, a 28 bowfront, a 29 regular, 2 10's, and several 5 gallons. I keep bettas in the 5's and 10's, the 29 regular is a breeding tank for my acaras, but houses cherry shrimp and snails as well. The 28 bow is a community of neons, hatchets, 1 male betta, and several kuhli's and cories. The 56 tall houses 4 angelfish, a raphael catfish, 3 bumblebee cats, and a king tiger plec. The 55 houses a baby jurensis catfish(who will move when he's big enough), and several young geophagus and severums destined for the big tank. One of the 75s houses assorted african cichlids, and 2 polyepterus buettokeferi. The other houses port acaras, the breeding pair of blue acaras, farlowella cats, rubbernose plec, and royal panaque. The 90 houses dojo, horseface, sidthimunki and kuhli loaches, tiger botia's, and assorted gourami. The 150 houses 9 adult discus, large schools of rummynose tetras, and cories. The 320 is pretty bare, just a large red head severum, 2 10 inch uaru, a large acara, and a 13 inch sailfin plec for now.

I have a 90 gallon fresh planted tank and I have 3 clown loaches, 2 weather loaches, pink kissing gouramis, gold gouramis, sunkiss gouramis, red gouramis, 2 sumo loaches, whisker pleco, spotted raphael catfish, 2 purple danios, 3 tiger barbs, tire track eel, a rope fish, 3 glo fish, 2 yoyo loaches, and 3 lemon tetras . It's a nice well rounded community tank. These fish are all community safe fish and eat almost any type of food you give them. I good place to look at pictures of fish to help you get some ideal about what you may like check out www.thatpetplace.com. if you click on aquarium livestock and use the advance search put in the type of fish you may want to buy and it will show you pictures of the fish, a description, the size the fish may get. It will also tell you about its habits and if its community safe or not. Hope this helps

If this is a beginner starting a new aquarium I recommend platies first, and try to stick within a certain temerature and pH band, so that all ur fish are properly compatible to ur tank.
I have 4 platies, 4 golden barbs, 2 bristlenose plecs, and 3 leapord danios. Its a v. nice tank. It has a roman olive jug in it too. I'm very proud of that jug. It has a nice curve to it, but the algae seems to like it, so half the time its blending in the background as a kind of weed pot. My plecs like it in there. Its a nice shady place to hide when it gets a bit frenzied in the tank. Its nice and dark and safe. No other fish go in there. It has a big hole in the side so the fish can swim in and out. Its next to the filter box, and looks quite nice there in the corner. Its terracotta, and has lots of fake Barnacles stuck to the side. It does look very roman. Theres some pebbles next to that. The pebbles are quite nice. Some are brown, some are white, and theres a green one that got in by mistake, which I haven't taken out yet. I like to pretend i'm a fish sometimes, and that that green pebble is my best friend, and He's called organ. My nickname is organ when I go to orchestra. Ooh, do you watch dr who? That never has fish in it. The fish are awesome in my fish tank. They are blue, gold, and brown. The plecs are spotty.
I'm really enjoying myself writing this. You probably think I'm a right weirdo. Oh well. I think I am. Goodbye.

I currently have 12 freshwater tanks. I have everything from a 30 gal tropical community tank with swordtails, female betta, some tetras and a few other small fish and otto cats to a 55 gal with a giant gourami and several other reg. gouramies to a 100 gal with severums and convicts (south american cichlids). I breed N. tetracanthus (african cichlids) in a 40 breeder with a 10 gal fry grow out tank.
Your best bet for good ideas is to research when fish will do best in the tank you have, size wise and then go from there. Good Luck!

(wow magicman! 46 tanks that's so cool shame you don't have 360 have loads of fishy questions for ya!) anyway sorry back to the question in my tank i have -
big plec
little plec
spotted Dora (Cat fish)
Siamese fighter (male)
2 black mollies (1 male and female)
three swordtails (2 females 1 male)
clown loach
red-tailed black shark
quite a few guppies (mixed sex)
and finally have about 15-20 baby guppies
and 5-6 baby swortails and some more on there way!!
good luck hope you find what your looking for and most importantly remember to look the fish up on the net if you do decide what fish your going to buy, always find out about them first! it's easier in the long run least you know what they are compatible with and not. and if you want to breed them you could find out how hard or easy it is etc.. enjoy buying your new fishy's lol =) x

As I have very limited space for tanks I have 2 small hexagonal tanks. In one tank I have 15 neon tetras, 1 otocinclus called Fizzgig and 2 African Dwarf Frogs called Jen and Keira.
In the other tank I have 9 leopard danios, 1 otocinclus called Sir Diddymus and 1 African Dwarf Frog called Hoggle.
I think a "species" tank looks very good.
