I need the title of a book that deals with the subjection of women. I can't think of one off the top of my head! Please Help me. I need to come up with a thesis to start writing my final paper! It can be any time frame, prefer modern day!

The Handmaid's Tale is a great example of this subject. It's by Margaret Atwood.

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn--Set in the 19th century (1800s) and shows subjection of women, and those that rise and attempt to rise above it: shows tangibly the squalor of Brooklyn at that time, and how it was not a simpler time. Another (which also focuses on immigrant issues and mental health issues) is Sophies Choice. Alices Ashes (I think that is the name) has been made into a movie, but shows subjection of women in a time when men could do what they wanted without much accountability, leaving women barefoot and pregnant.

The Red Tent. I don't know the author, but it deals with the culture of women in the early Judiac era. You can see how the women gradually lost what few rights they had.

Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan is something I suggest for that topic. It is incredibly provocative and inspiring.
