Isnt it pretty easy to pronunce, but all I hear is E-ROQ. Is that how they pronunce it in Iraq?

I believe they do pronounce it that way in Iraq, which I believe is due to the phonetics of the dominant language used there. As for the media here in America, it doesn't make sense to pronounce it EROQ as IRAQ, according to English phonetics, should be pronounced IRAQ.

Yes. Iraq, like Iran (ee-RAHN), has letters that are pronounced one way and one way only. Pronouncing it "eye-RACK" or "eye-RAN" is incorrect.

In the names of many countries, A is pronounced AH, E is pronounced EH, I is pronounced EE, O is pronounced OH, and U is pronounced OO. The same goes for many languages, like spanish, where vowels have the same sound basically 100 percent of the time.

The major exception is in "Arabia," but that's not pronounced correctly. The people who live in the majority of the middle east are Arabs, pronounced "AIR - ubs," (though Iranians are mostly Persian, not Arab).

Because in the Arabic alphabet, I is pronounced E.

Yes, that's how they pronounce it in Iraq (ee-rock). Americans usually say "eye-rack".
