Chris really said it all. The TRUTH, & well informed. Yet, how DARE courtney say if we stop now, it will mean they did it for nothing? Those men & women deserve our deep sorrow & respect, but there IS NO "SOMETHING" to accomplish by sending even more to die, get maimed, come back sucidal. The same convoluted thinking in, if we leave, we'll "get walked over." All those nasty countries will think we're "weak?" On the contrary, the wisdom in pulling out would gain the lost respect from allies, & from the MAJORITY of the U.S. Bush said there is no "graceful" exit, how about a logical exit? The "soldiers HAVE spoken out, so have Generals who ought to know what's really happening in Iraq. A lot more than some of the people here do. I've heard the slick little self serving comments that things are "improving"--by people who never stepped into a uniform or even went to Iraq. This was a failure from the start, it had no reason & no plan. Our troops are fighting a CIVIL WAR. Now Al Qaeda is after Saudia Arabia. It's a horrible virus. BUSH SNEEZED. Is it fun to bash liberals? Last I saw/read, about two thirds of the country are against this atrocity. Does this mean they're all liberals? Wouldn't I wish! Sometimes I wonder, when I see answers advocating grinding out more & more troops, if they are young enough, & "fit" enough, why aren't they in uniform? No, I won't give you links. But I have a chronlogical file on this from CREDIBLE sources. It is tragic. Bush speaks of victory. There is no "victory" in an invasion. Anyone see the movie, Lawrence of Arabia? It says a lot about the culture (which is frankly none of our business) but rather clearly shows the inherent divisiveness. As for getting rid of Saddam, that should never have been our "task," & as horrid as he was, the country is far worse off now. So, that's one side of the "debate" for whatever it's worth. Sorry for "running off the mouth." I'm very apprehensive & wish people would see the "whole" picture & not just spout off. One last thing! Now we have Israel to blame!

I think Bush and his crew should stop seeing this war as an epic battle between good and evil - a victory or a defeat. He ought to admit this war was a humanitarian, political, strategic and economic catastrophe. It was an unjust invasion that has only brought more misery, violence and extremism to the world. Enough people have died and suffered for some imaginary goal or mission. If Bush wants to dream up nemeses, provoke devils and then wait for God to smite them dead he can do so on his own time, at his own expense and risk..

First, thank you for serving us over there, I have high respect for anyone willing to make the sacrifice and risk their live for our country, I have a number of buddies over there as we speak.
Yes, we should pull out of Iraq simply because we should have never attacked in the first place. We should have pulled out once it was exposed that we started a war based on false information and lies. We basically attacked a soveriegn state under the falsehoods that they were hiding weapons of mass destruction, it was all a lie. We should pull out and try to save some of our reputation with the world and maybe some international relations can rebuild some bonds that have been weakened and damaged due to our actions. We are angering the world by acting like imperialist bullies. I am tired of seeing our young men and women ending up dead for a "war" that is based on personal gains, ego petting, and lies. The longer we stay the more dangers we face, the longer we stay the more terrorism we face because we are angering them back acting like bullies. This is not backing down from terrorists though, this is ending a conflict that we escalated for no reason, this si trying to save the American name and still be looked at in some ways positive.

It all depends on the reasons we are there. I'm guessing that, by being there, we make much better money dealing arms. We also maintain an important strategic position by our military presence there (That's my guess, only.). If I am right, then the question depends on what's valuable to America.
I hope I'm wrong, and if I am wrong, then our goals there don't sound reachable. If it's just a matter of face, then by all means, pull out. Sorry if I offend anyone.

I agree with courtney, but I also think that congress needs to shut up and ask the soldiers. We shouldnt decide for them because were not over there! My grandpa was drafted and put in Vietnam, and until he got over there, he thought the war was stupid... until he got there. Then he realized what he needed to be doing. So, its not like all of the soldiers would just say, "lets go home," just to see their families. I bet some of them would stay and fight until they've finished their mission. IF they finish it.

I voted for Kerry in the last election, and I think the only good thing about Bush getting reelected is that someone else couldn't suddenly pull out all our troops.
Going in was a mistake. The idea that people can go into a country, fix things, then pull out is pretty rediculous.
But we made that mistake. And until Iraq is stabilized enough to enforce its laws without requiring outside military support, we can't responsibly withdraw.
I think we need to start bringing Iraqi troops to America to train. Unfortunately it can take years to teach the discipline and dedication that is required to be a good soldier.

Yes, we should start pulling out.
The Iraqis need to understand that we will not be there forever. I find it completely absurd that Bush said that the Iraqi people need to start defending themselves, but then sends even more troops. That is sending the wrong message.
If we start pulling out then maybe they will understand that they have to do something about this. We aren't fighting against Iraq. We went there to kill Hussein, because it was apparently our job to overthrow foreign nations. Well, we killed him, so the jobs done. We don't need to be in Iraq to fight terrorist, if anything we need to be here, in the US, to effectively fight them.

Yes, we should not have to sacrifice our American taxdollars and troops lives for Israel. Israelis are the puppet masters that are pulling Bush's strings.
Israel has been wanting the U.S. to invade the Middle East for decades. It is called doing the Zionist's dirty work: namely, declaring genocide on Muslims and stealing their land and resources (oil and water) for Israel.
