It is not the classic "Forbidden Planet" but similar. The crew includes the only "survivor" from the last mission to the planet. They are eliminated, 1-by-1, until they figure out the planet is using their fears against them. They also discover they are being eliminated in order to select one of their number to be the next "survivor." Anyone know this movie?

...why, you just described the basic premise for a little sci-fi/horror ditty from 1981, entitled "Galaxy of Terror", starring Ray Walston, Eddie Albert, Erin Moran ('Joanie' from "Happy Days"), Sid Haig, and an actor soon destined to portray a certain razor-fingered dream killer, named Robert England.

The creative killings, again as you said, based upon the fears of each of the characters, are very imaginative; I particularly enjoyed the slimey rape of one of the female space crew...by a giant (we're talking truck-sized) worm!!!

Release by Roger Cormen's New World Pictures (and utilizied a lot of stock footage from many of his sci-fi based films), "Galaxy..." was one of the very first film projects of a young unit director, just fired off the film, "Pirahna II: The Spawning"; a few years later, this unit director would assume a film director's chair, and create one of the most famous sci-fi action icon movies ever, namely "The Terminator" (1984). That man was, of course, James Cameron.

Unfortunately, "Galaxy of Terror", previously released on VHS tape, has yet to see release on DVD; it has been on my 'want' list for years now. They better release it quick, as my VHS tape is almost worn!!!

Could be Mission to Mars, but I don't think so. Not a great movie, but whatever.

Could also be the 1962 movie, Journey to the Seventh Planet

Also, possibly Sphere, but they were underwater in that, not on another planet.

Reminds me of Event Horizon with Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne. It's one of the scariest Sci-fi movies I've ever seen.
