mk ultra, that would be the same as me thinking all Americans live in trailer parks and shoot each other for crack, which would be stupid. I understand why you think that, after all it's bad news that sell papers and to be honest, there is an element of truth about the existance of chavs and women who get drunk, doesn't America have any women that drink too much?

I'm not a rhetorical Republican, I'm a Democrat and really love Britain myself. Lived in London for 3 years and rode the Tube with everyone else, worked, and lived. It does make me upset at times when the Republicans attack other people from other Country's that oppose their views. We aren't any different here in America, since we don't like it either as a 70% majority whether the rest of the World knows the truth or not. The Republicans have got the Media censored to show support for George Bush that is false. I have some links to support this:

I have hugely mixed feelings about the Brits. On the positive side, they are among our closest allies and staunchest supporters. I value their legal, parliamentary, and cultural heritage as the foundation of our own.
That being said, I am an EXTEREMLY proud Irish-American, and harbor numerous grievances against the way the Brits have historically treated the Irish. I understand it's irrational to remain angry centuries after the fact, but certain events are too recent to ignore. Partition was the height of sectarian gerrymandering. I would have some semblance of respect for the idea had the Brits retained all nine counties of Ulster. Dividing the province to guarantee the demographics necessary to be able to claim a majority of Loyalists in the Six Counties sounds like something the Soviets would have come up with. When it comes to Ireland, Britannia waives the rules.

I like the British. I enjoy British humor. I trained with British troops in the Army and I thought they were good chaps and good comrades. There are probably some things I don't like about British culture but since I don't live there (UK) I don't care.
Being from the Washington, D.C. area I am delighted to run into British tourists and welcome them to the US and wish them a enjoyable visit.
I regret the war in Iraq has caused a rift between the American and British peoples. But I am hoping that the things we have in common; love of freedom, common history is bigger than the things that divide us.
One more thing about British troops. When I was in the army I thought I was a professional drinker. Compared to British troops I was a light weight..sheesh!

Can I just say how impressed I am at the well thought-out and reasoned responses from the all the Americans here? Commendations to you all!
The reason I say that is because, if the question was asked the other way around, I bet many many people here would respond based on their prejudices, as opposed to on the basis of consideration and objectivity.
Thankyou - you've allowed me to go to bed on a happy note! Goodnight!

The British people I know are great! And I have a great admiration for Tony Blair, although I think he wimped out when Iran kidnapped those sailors. I look forward to visiting again in a couple of years if the American dollar doesn't lose any more value to the British pound. :)

I have a pretty favorable impression, but I'm not the typical 'murican. My mother was Australian until she was 19, grew up with the Queen on all her money and all that. I was raised Anglophile to the point I still use the occasional bit of Commonwealth slang, although dated to the 1960s.
Your TV is better than ours, so I'm jealous. THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN would never have been made here, and our version of THE OFFICE is bloody awful.
The Brits put topless women on page 3 of their newspapers, while in the US people have seizures at the thought of a woman breast feeding her child under a blanket on an airplane. Just that says you lot are more mentally stable than we are on average.

I have never met anybody British, I have no reason to dislike anyone because of their nationality.
I don't know anything about British people actually at all.
I tend to assume as people, we are pretty much alike except you guys have an accent that makes you sound very intelligent.

I assume British to be intellectual, chatty, a little stuffy, polite, progressive, lots of musical geniuses (sp?), conflicted politically, some can be a little arrogant (not all), and may still refer to us as 'The colonies' from time to time. Also, they have a very dry, sophisticated sense of humor.
Actually many Americans, such as myself, whose ancestry is mainly traced back to the Islands, feel a great kinship with Britan and are intensley curious.
Would you like to chat directly and exchange views? I'm just as curious about Your culture as you are about mine. If so, feel free to e-mail.

The British are the British.
My heritage is mostly English, so I don't really have an opinion of them. To me they are just like Americans with a funny accent.
Oh, and ugly police cars.
and stupid turn abouts.
