Just start taking your daughter to petsmart for their adoptions and the one that works for you will eventually come along. Don't be in a hurry just go and meet and greet them all. Petsmart rescues are no kill the animal you don't choose will be safe so you will have no need for a guilty conscious. Offer to foster its between adoption events just take the pet back to the next adoption if its not the one you want. I find all the best ones this way. And what ever you may find that you don't like about the pet you can tell them and make sure its okay for anyone who is interested.

Cuddly is a live animal and cats are the easiest because they require food, water and a litter box. The sand in the box has to be cleaned out every other day and the sand changed at last once a month or more, adding as it diminishes with the cleaning. If kept indoors the yearsly shots are fewer than a cat that is allowed to roam outside, which cuts the animal's life expectancy in half. Depending on where you live, you may also need to purcahse a ointment that you put on the nap of the neck once a month.
But in comparison to a dog, cats are lower maintenance. You can give them food, water, etc., and leave them for a couple of days.
The socialness of the cat is significantly different than a dog. Dogs are "pack animals" who want to be around people and have an "alpha structure" of who is in charge (hopefully the human). Where as cats are independent, with some less willing to sit on the lap and cuddle.
When you pick an animal take your time. Let the animal come to you, on its terms. If that cat crawls into the lap, you got a winner for a high probability of a cuddler.
OH, and the best and cheapest place is to go to a local no-kill or animal shelter - or animal adoption center NOT a pet shore!!

A kitten. It will need shots ,litter box and food. All you have to do is show them where the litter box is at a few times and that is how you house train a kitten! Need to have the kitten declawed when old enough so your little girl does not get scratched.
A puppy has to be house trained to either go outside or puppy pads. Taken out for walks. Takes a lot of training.
Kittens are your bet!!!

Go the the nearest animal shelter and get a cat or kitten. You can tell by their personality if they are cuddlers or aloof. They let you spend time with the animal and you can match your personality to the cats. They need homes and make wonderful pets. You'll make your daughter happy and save the life of a pet. It sounds strange but just go, the cat that your meant to have will pick you. Thats how I found mine.

Hey!
If you're looking for something cuddly and cute, but not too expensive, then go for something like a rabbit or a guinapig or a hamster. Personally, I would recommend a rabbit, as they are really cute, and easy to look after. I have two, and they are so adorable! (they can live for up to about 10 years aswell)!!

Cats are low maintenance. All you do is feed and water them and clean their litter box. And you can't beat their cuddle factor.
