Only if when you come to my house, you kick your shoes off, put your feet up and relax.
If one of your house rules is that people take their shoes off at the door, (my brother's the same) then I, of course will respect that.
My rules are somewhat different. There is no swearing or arguing allowed in my house but debates and joking are encouraged.
If you smoke (I don't), you smoke in the house. I don't allow people to smoke in the garden - there is a specific reason for this. I have several ashtrays.
Although you are more important than an animal, this is Jet's house and he is to be respected as part of the household, I've had visitors who have yowled in his face and tried to put him outside because they don't like cats. If you're allergic that's a totally different matter.
However, he won't purr for my brother nor take snacks from his family, considering he purrs almost constantly for me (he's on the back of the settee and I can hear him now), it means that he really doesn't like them.
I don't have many rules, I like to have a relaxed home and cook for my guests.

Thanks for the invite but I just got a new pair of shoes that need wearing in, so comming to yours would just not be pragmatic at this moment in time. I do, however, suspect that by next weekend my shoes will be worn in and I would happily come round, take em off and have a jolly nice evening. I do have a friend who, to my knowledge, hasn't just got a new pair of shoes, I could ask him if he'll come round and take his old pair off. Let me know.

I don't wear shoes, but if you just got new carpet I'll be glad to wash my feet at the hose or use babywipes to get the street dirt off.

a thousand times no! that is the one thing i stand against.
i will not take my shoes off, just as my father before me never did, and i would rather die than let a frenchman take off my shoes.
good day.

Yes, I'll take them off right at the door. I'll be more comfortable sock-footed anyway. Just be sure to return the favor if you visit me!
