Microsoft, and more particularly Bill Gates is sadly the target of a group of sociopaths who have nothing better to do than to try to hack MS's operating systems, find flaws in said systems, and then exploit the flaws to send spam, spyware and a host of other nasties to unsuspecting Microsoft product users' computers.

What these service packs do is to innoculate your computer with the latest OFFICIAL fixes that MS's engineers have come up with to try to fix the abovementioned flaws and to keep your operating sysytem functional and bug free.

It is ALWAYS ALWAYS a great idea to run Windows® Update ( Start-All programs- Windows Update) regularly so that your computer stays innoculated.

Simply do a Windows update from your desktop, and it will pick up the SP-3 if it is a critical update,it will install it to your OS (operating system), and BOOM!! ... yer off to the races...

Good Luck!!

Every year or so Microsoft will release a major update to its versions of Windows. It is designed to fix bugs, patch holes, update, and sometimes add new features to Windows.

The service packs are free and can be downloaded from Microsoft.com.

Service Packs are rollups of Hotfixes and patches that Microsoft periodically puts out to keep XP up to date.

That tells you what the latest service pack is and how to get it.
