I'm a stay-at-home mom to two toddlers. I love it, but lately I've been absolutely exhausted. I could get 8 hours of sleep and still feel like I slept 4 or 5 hours. I am extremelly emotional and will cry over some of the most stupid things (even tv commercials!). I've tried altering my diet, I've cut down on coffee, I've quit smoking, and yet I'm totally drained. Do you have any advice for me?

You really do need to see a doctor. Stress could be depleting your store of B vitamins. You could be low on hormones. You could be depressed. It could be low blood sugar or an insulin response to simple carbs. Hypoglycemia will make you cry like you spoke of. It could be a combination of things.

How recently did you cut down on coffee? That could exacerbate tiredness.

Make sure you give up most sugar...especially stuff like fruit juice (will make your toddlers bigger than a barn in no time by the way), pastries, cookies, and junky cereals. Eat a healthy diet: Breakfast: peanut butter and banana sandwich on whole grain bread; Lunch - sandwich on whole grain bread and some yogurt, or a tortilla with beans and veggies + fruit; snacks - yogurt; string cheese and an apple; nuts and fruit; whole grain triscuits or wheat thins with some cheese; Dinner - small portion of meat, soy or beans, brown rice, sweet potato or Barilla pasta plus, 2 cups steamed veggies, yogurt, fruit, dark chocolate. Take a One-a-Day or equivalent. Never add Iron pills to your diet unless directed by your physician (determined if you need them by a blood test) as they are dangerous. If wouldn't hurt to sprinkle some toasted wheat germ over your food (B vitamins). Fish oils or flax oil helps with depression over time. Add some good fats to your diet: peanut butter, olive oil, canola oil, nuts, fish.

Last but by no means least - take a few breathing breaks a day. Hide in the bathroom or face the wall if you have to! Close your eyes and take the deepest breath you can, hold it for a few seconds and let it go.

Relaxing muscles - scrunch your shoulders up towards your ears - try to touch the ears - hold and then let go. Do this a few times a day.

Even the most loving and caring stay at home moms need a break. Try short 1 or 2 hour day care breaks a couple of times a week. Lots of churches have them and they are great to catch an hour of 2 of "you" time which may be just what you need. Good Luck!!!

GOOD KNIGHT, WOMAN! No human should have to go through that! Man, I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I'm guessing that you're going to want something that won't cost a whole lot, and you probably can't afford to be gone for long... Have you considered a day of pampering at your local spa? Get a facial, manicure, pedicure, massage, etc. $150-$200 should take you pretty far. It won't solve your problems, but it will help you relax a bit, and hopefully give your body a break from all of that stress. Good luck!

You could be anemic... you should get yourself checked out..... it could just be a simple case of fatigue, i mean running around after two toddlers, you do have your work cut out, and by that i mean it's hard work, but i think once you can eliminate anemia, or hormonal, you can then rest a bit more easy.... and make sure you take care of yourself you need to keep your strength up so i would talk to a doctor about it, and take it from there good luck.

Yeah. You probably need a break from the kids. Kids, especially toddlers are energetic and taxing. Schedule some "me" time away from them and from the house. Get the hubby to take you to a weekend get away at a spa.

Is it possible that you can get the children minded by a family member over the weekend? Catch up on some rest & have some time out for you?

definitely! been there, done that....you need some alone time; try to get some opportunities to participate in pre-mommyhood hobbies and activities. if this doesn't help you regain a sense of self, see your physician.you may be suffering from depression and need medication. there really is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Girl take a break from it all.....You need to get out of the house...That's what's getting you....it's just what some mommies go through....after I had my son I was so depressed and it lasted for a few months....I needed to just get out...So I decided that I would call one of my church memebers that often offered to baby sit over for. She watched him while I went to the book store and I sat and just read and drank coffee...I also went to the mall and just walked around....over and over again....Trust me it' s the house...You feel so locked in and you need to get out...I even walked around our neighboor hood...that helped also...I even joined a mommie and me group and we all would call each other and just talk some times....That works so much...

Take some time out for you...When they are napping try polishing your nails....or try taking a hot bath....that could help you get out of that mood...it's not uncommon.....
