I know this is a no-no, but I want to find out what other girls would have done in my situation.
Recently I travelled to meet with my district manager, and when dressing in my hotel room that morning I realized that the pantyhose I had packed to wear with my strappy open toed shoes had a reinforced toe.
My choices were:
A. Wear the hose I'd brought
B. Not wear any hose (not really appropriate in this situation)
C. Buy some new hose on the way to my meeting and try to find a place to change (made even more difficult by the fact that I was wearing a pantsuit, so no quickly slipping off the old and on with the new!)
I decided to wear the hose I'd brought, and even though I was a bit self conscious about it, I don't believe it was really all that noticable. The reinforced area was a little darker and less sheer than rest of the hose, but my toes were still visible. I didn't notice anyone pointing and laughing, anyway!
Did I do the right thing?

To respond to some of you: it really wasn't a formal business meeting, so I wasn't really dressed professionally. My pantsuit was red and consisted of slacks and a short sleeveless button-up top (actually a bit low cut and flirty). My shoes could probably be considered sandals, and they were also red. I really think they look well together!
I usually wear hose any time I dress up even a little, and especially wanted to this time for a smooth look under my slacks.

hmmm good question
i think what you did was fine, if it were me i probably would have bought another pair of hose or gone bare (especially since u were wearing slacks).
the old idea of hose for a professional look i think is a little dated, and now it depends on what profession u r in.
for hose with open-toe strappy sandals, i think it would depend on how open the toe is (for me). if i am wearing a peep toe, or something that would hide the reinforced toe, then that is one thing. but a more open toe is another, then i like the really sheer look.
i think also the idea that nobody will be paying attention to your feet is not true. people will notice everything, so why not your shoes?
but its all a matter of what makes u feel comfortable and what makes u feel u look your best!

Kinda hard to picture the meeting atmosphere. I agree with the posters that open toe with a pantsuit is even more of a no no I would think.
At work it is business casual and I'm like the only one that wears a skirt and hose. Some guys here have said I look more professional this way and give me compliments. I have worn the reinforced toe with an open toe high heel mule and never heard a complaint - in fact guys have told me that they actually like that look. But I admit that the reinforcement wasn't so dark to be so noticeable

I personally would never ever wear opened toed shoes with panty hose. I think it looks horrific and when I see someone else wearing that all I can think of is a teacher I had that wore thick hose with sandals every day.
With business attire I've always been told that it is more inappropriate to wear opened toed shoes at all, then to wear no panty hose. I personally never wear hose, and I've also never worn open shoes to an interview, meeting, or work.
In your situation I would have gone without panty hose - I feel that if your outfit was professional looking it shouldn't have been an issue whether you were wearing hose or not.... especially if you were wearing a pantsuit - your legs werent even showing! try closed toed shoes with your pantsuits... preferrably a nice leather pump - much more professional. Save the strappy sandals for your days off.

Thats fine dear. I frequently wear open toe heels and pantyhose with my pantsuits. I do try to always wear sheer toe pantyhose with them, but I have worn reinforced toe hose a couple times

Oh dear, I'm thinking you did the best you can do. You can get by with not wearing any as long as you lotion up your feet really well. It is true people don't notice your feet. Since you had a pantsuit on it, fashion rules have relaxed enough for you to go without "hose" it would not be inappropiate. I think it was more to your comfort level. but they do make "hose" that are toeless. Usually I recommend to clients who must attend important corporate meettings, that they not wear open toe anything. it save alot of speculation and embarrassement..good luck at your next meeting.

Yes, wear a neutral color and make sure when you put them on you line the seam up under your toes instead of right at the tip. Take along a pair of tennis shoes or slippers to wear for those longer drives and slip your heels back on before you get out of the car. As long as you have good quality hose you shouldn't have any issues with them bunching at your ankles. Oh, and polish those nails to match your dress or your shoes!

If you didn't have time to stop and buy some new hose, of course you did the right thing!
As long as you were comfortable, it's not a big deal. I know you said they didn't, but anyone who actually WOULD point out something like that has some serious social issues and needs to get a life.
It's not like you forgot your pants and decided to show up for the meeting half naked. :) I wouldn't worry about it.

I wouldn't worry too much unless you work for a hosiery company or maybe in fashion. Another idea would have been sandalfoot kneehighs since you mentioned that you had on a pantsuit. I think reinforced toes on hose are sexy in thier own way. Sort of fifties sexy. Another choice would have been to buy different shoes if you had the time. What a great excuss to buy shoes!

I have been in that situation and adjusted the reinforcement so it was more pulled under my feet. I now buy only sheer to waist pantyhose

Why would it be inappropriate to go without hose when you are wearing a pantsuit?????
