Because during Pregnancy, your body reacts differently to certain stimuli. That's the "why". Overuse of laxatives to induce labor isn't proven to work for one, and for two can lead to dehydration. Dehydration if bad enough, can cause your unborn child to go into distress. In other words, you tried it and it failed, now stop. Sex is the best way to induce labor. As an ingredient found in sperm softens and ripens the cervix (hence how you became pregnant in the first place). Walking can also induce labor, as can nipple stimulation with or without a breast pump (I know for fact this one works). Be careful with whatever you do. But please consider the ramifications of continual use of laxatives, there are certainly other alternatives.

Don't you just hate when you ask a question and people just critize how horrible you are for pretty much being miserable!??? I asked this same question *though I have not taken the oil yet I am only 36 weeks* and all I got was "Why would you want to take it...baby when come when ready, blah blah blah..." Taking castor oil has been around for generations. Back in the "day" when modern medicine and tech. were not around doctors gave castor oil to women to induce them. Baby is fully developed at 38 weeks. I personally do not see the problem in taking castor oil! I know I will try!! But I would try taking another 2 tbls. in maybe 2 hours or so with a coke or something. If it doesn't work then... I guess you just have a stubborn lil one coming soon! lol Good Luck

I wouldn't take anymore if I were you, since it didn't work the first two times. Seeing as how the castor oil isn't throwing you inot labor, that method may nto work for you, and by taking more, you are increasing the chances of the baby having a bowel movement inutero (and that's can turn into a bad thing)...and seeing as how you could potentially still be pregnant for another 2 or more weeks, I wouldn't risk it. You tried it, it didn't work....I wouldn't try it again.
Have you tried other things? Walking alot, sex, spicy foods, etc.
You can try Evening Prim Rose oil...you buy them in capsule form and you can take them orally or insert them vaginally...they will help you to efface/thin out and ripen the cervix. You can also drink Red Raspberry Leaf Tea...this will help prime your uterus for labor and can also begin contractions. You can buy either of the two at a health food store. (The red raspberry leaf tea, it not just raspberry flavored tea from the store..it is different than that.).
Good luck and congrats!

Castor oil isn't a great way to induce labour, you may not have got diahorrea, but that is all it tends to do, usually, that and stomach cramps which aren't labour contractions!
One thing you may not have tired is Clarysage essential oil. Be VERY careful and NEVER have it near you any time in early pregnancy though.
Put 3 drops into a bath, hot baths often help, and with the oil it works better - I lost my mucous plug after walking all morning and then having a hot bath with Clarydsage oil last night, so it got something moving!
Your hubby could massage the oil mixed with baby lotion into your lower back, this could also help.
Good luck!! I'm 38+3 weeks pregnant.

All that castor oil will do is make you **** all over when the baby does come out. Maybe you should try walking or sex, or doing some strecthing. Get an exercise ball and bounce on it. Remember not to do too much to where you hurt yourself or the baby. You also don't wnat to tire yourself out just in case it works, you will need your energy.
You don't want to hear it, but when the baby is ready, he/she will send a chemical to your uterus telling it to start the labor, so truthfully, only the baby knows when he/she is ready.
Trust me, I know how you feel.
I just thought about it, go tho the hospital and tell them you think you are leaking fluid. sometimes the test they do brings on labor. I did that, they sent me home (cause I wasn't) and then I had my baby the next day.
Good Luck!

Homeopathic ways to induce labor work only if the body is ready to be in labor, unfortunately. There is plenty of anectdotal advice out there to show that things work, but this is all anectdotal and may not mean it works for you.
Even though you don't want to wait, your body might be making you wait...
Castor oil doesn't always work for constipation, either. If you're having that problem (you mentioned diarrhea like you were hoping for a BM, not sure if you need it or want it to signal labor), then talk to your MD...colace, senokot, and metamucil tend to work...
Generally castor oil isn't harmful, but too much of anything is never good...I'd ask the MD before taking more (god bless you, too...it's yucky to take!), but I wouldn't worry about what you already took (you can't undo what's already been done).
Good luck and think labor thoughts!

When i was pregant with my last child i took the castrol oil and my contractions didn't kick in for hours. When they did though they were really strong and intense so i went to the doctor. The first time i did it they put my epidural in and it made the contractions stop and they sent me home. The second time i did it it did the same thing but they didnt send me home they broke my water and let me go. Maybe you didn't take enough i don't know but be careful it will give you some serious b movements. Good Luck

NOOOO lord no
CASTOR OIL: All its going to do is give you severe stomach cramps NOT contractions! You will POOP ALOT! It can cause the baby to have a BM in utero, cause severe infection requiring IV antibiotics should they swallow the meconium.
I dont "claim" to be an RN I am an RN and have worked labor and delivery for the last 5 yrs, Please take my advise DO NOT try CASTOR OIL, I've seen too many babies sick cause they had a BM in utero and ended up swallowing their own meconium, requiring IV antibiotics immediately after birth!!!
PLEASE DONT TAKE NO MORE!!! I hope this doesnt happen to your baby hun...

Why not wait another few hours to see if something hits you. It may have not worked it's way through your system yet. Or maybe this is not the natural remedy for your body. Try evening primrose oil gel caps, they are a bit safer too.
