I dumped my cable company for DirecTV, and am very happy I did. I haven't had a single hour of down service, and get alot more channels for the money.

I have Cable and would prefer the rates were lower. I subscribe to digital service with DVR with HBO and Starz..this costs me well over 100 dollars a month. 2 times now I've had my cable disconnected because of a mislabel in the cable box and at least 1 of those times the technician never visited my apartment and was about to drive away before I caught up to him and asked him if he was here for me. He had and said it was fixed, I asked him how could he know that since he never checked with me and indeed my cable was NOT fixed. He then fixed the problem, only to have to have it disconnected again 1 month later, the last tech saw the mislabeled mistake and I have not had a problem since. Cable companies are not regulated like the Telephone companies, all telephone companies have rules and regulations that basically outline how service is installed, when it has to be installed by, how much they have to charge for it, and so on and so on. Cable companies are not regulated and therefore can charge whatever they wish and do have any guidelines other then their own they have to follow. (Which is why I see alot of self employed Contractors who are cheaper to employ instead of actual cable service techs that work directly for the company) This is also why Internet Phone services like Vonage are so cheap at the moement. They promise you services for as low as 20 dollars for six months and then the price is jacked up after 6 months.

Definately not. I shut my cable off almost a year ago. With a pair of cheap rabbit ears i can get the 5 major channels in my area anyway. Why should I pay someone else a small fortune to watch those channels anyway. Rarely did I flip to the other channels that were a "minimum package."

No..they make you pay a high price and don't even have good channels.
There should be a pay what you watch.
People don't realize it in California..but by the end of 2008 you will have no choice but to get cable or satellite...they mad anew law ending analog tv and make it only digital..that means everyone will have to pay for a box to receive digital tv and you will no longer be able to receive the free air tv using anteneas.

We get about 10-15 channels, my kids can still watch seasame street, i can still watch the news, and lost, and grey's anatomy. Everyone is happy and no one has to fork out a monthly bill!! wooo hooo
