yes it makes a sound. have humans become so conceited as to think that if they don't hear it? it doesn't make a sound. we have adapted to our surroundings as have other animals, and we have ears that allow us to hear sound, sound was not created so we could have ears. ears were created so we could hear the already existing sound. humans are all existential, but have neglected to recognize the self centered thinking that has overcome our species.

First, it is true that everything we sense is processed by our brains. A sensation is converted into electrical and chemical signals. We do not actually see, hear, feel, touch or taste anything. It is the interpretation of signals our brains receive which creates the experience of sensation. Therefore, if there is no observer of a tree falling in the woods then there is no sound. Likewise, if a blind man opens a refrigerator door and no one else is around to see the fridge light go on -- the light does not go on.

If sound is sound only when perceived, no, there would be no sound if no one and nothing (e.g., animals, recording devices) could hear it. There would be only the waves, as a potential for an actual audible "sound". This would be something like the idea of me blowing a kiss gently against the back of your neck. I could go through the motions of such a kiss, but if you weren't there to feel me, there would be no kiss — as there would be no sound.
Sound per se is a perception and requires a receiver.

This is a great ethical question. Hey I'm a Physical Scientist so I'll not bother with the obvious. If you care about right and wrong you do not need an audience.

Hi, when i was going to school.....a long long long time ago we actually did this for an assignment! We left a recorder out in the scrub, and after a few months of trying to capture something ...we did...
Its was an awesome task inspired by the very question you posted!
So yes it makes a sound!

No. In order for something to "make a sound", the waves must be perceived by something with auditory reception. This assumes that you do not claim that "sound" and "sound waves" are the same thing (which is debatable).

Sound is not linked to hearing. It's the other way around. So it's entirely possible to have sounds that aren't heard, but not to hear without sound. (Exccept for the human mind playing tricks.)

Yes. This is one of those human centric questions. The laws of nature go on whether there is a human to interpret them or not.

The animals that were within range would hear it fall.
